The 8 Colors
The 8 Colors of Fitness – Discover Your Color-Coded Fitness Personality and Create an Exercise Program You’ll Never Quit (Oakledge Press, 2008) was written by Suzanne Brue. Suzanne conducted hundreds of interviews and also used self-reporting data to determine common aspects of physical exercise, such as motivation, approach, focus, preferred environments, coaching styles and interpersonal connections. The Myers-Briggs Psychological Type Indicator tool, or MBTI® is the most widely used personality descriptor that distinguishes sixteen distinct personality types. Suzanne simplified the MBTI® and its identification to eight basic types. She then assigned a color, and delineated between harmony and efficient versions for each color type, based on a person’s judging function (thinking as efficient or feeling as harmony).
Blues are loyal, dependable, straight-forward, methodical, committed and conscientious traditionalists who like what’s familiar and predictable.
Golds are traditional, conservative conversationalists, who trust authority and need proven safe methods in a stable environment.
Greens are independent, caring, natural outdoor lovers who have a keen sense of direction and operate “in the now”.
Reds are quick responders with high energy. They are friendly competitors who give their all every time. They are where the action is, ready for action and fun.
Saffrons are fun, enthusiastic, sensitive, flexible, spontaneous, creative encouragers who command attention comfortably.
Silvres are often entrepreneurial multi-taskers, energized by new ideas and possibilities. They seek variety or “cutting edge” activities.
Whites are independent, self-organizing, disciplined visionaries who enjoy theories. They have a strong need to plan ahead and reflectively seek out calm environments.
Purples are action-oriented, goal-directed, internally motivated thinkers who want to be the best on any level of their diverse interests.
